Global Greens Congress: Dakar 2012

Green politicians and activists from around the world will gather in the Global Greens Congress in Dakar, Senegal, from 29th March to 1st April 2012. The Congress will be hosted by the Fédération Démocratique des Ecologistes du Sénégal (FEDES) in cooperation with the African Green Federation and the Global Greens Coordination.

The Global Greens Congress is an opportunity to meet many people from different cultural backgrounds who share a feeling of global citizenship and of Green political and social values and ideals.

That the congress is held in Africa, a continent that aggregates the hopes and challenges of many pressing issues of world politics is especially exiting. The arising democratic movement in the north of the continent will be on the agenda of the congress as well as the need for fundamental economic reforms, a Green New Deal, as well as fighting climate change and keeping biodiversity and the environment save. It is important to keep in mind that the Green New Deal is not only a European proposal to transform our economies to more sustainable production and consumption means, but a global one. The congress is thus a perfect occasion to discuss the challenges and opportunities that come with it.
