Better rail networks!

The Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament is organising a conference on the different aspects of the railway system in Europe and on the ways to improve it. The topics addressed include the quality of the networks and moving along with services, investments and ticketing.

Date: 15 December 2013, 15.00 – 18.00
Venue: European Parliament (Brussels), room ASP 1G3
Language: Simultaneous Interpretation in EN, DE, FR, IT, ES, NL

Improving the performance of railway transport around Europe is not impossible, but political will is needed to make it happen. We would need to build a bridge between railways and other modes of transport, by improving connectivity and inter-operability. We would also need to improve the decision-making processes in transport by increasing transparency and participation of users and stakeholders. And finally, European railways would be better financed by switching funding away from mega high-speed projects toward networks which enhance services for all travellers. All these topics will be discussed in the Greens/EFA conference, together with Members of the European Parliament, as well as national politicians and representatives of initiatives for enhancing rail travel (e.g Seat 61).

Speakers:

  • Eva Lichtenberger, MEP
  • Moritz Leuenberger, Former Minister of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications of Switzerland
  • Matthieu Chabanel, RFF, France
  • Gösta Weber, RoCK Project
  • Mark Smith, the man in Seat 61 (www.seat61.com), United Kingdom
  • Michael Cramer, MEP

A cocktail reception will be offered at the end of the conference.
