The growing Crisis in Europe: Is the European Union capable of an effective response?

Caritas Europa is organising a High-level conference in order to discuss with EU Officials and Civil Society experts about the future direction of the EU's response to the crisis.

The aim of the conference is to explore the deepening levels of social distress in Europe and to asses the adequacy of the EU's mechanisms and policy responses to date - including the Europe 2020 Strategy's European Semester and the EU's austerity approach through the Stabilization Mechanisms.

Philippe Lambert (Green MEP) Egbert Holthuis  (Head of Unit, European Commission DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion) Sian Jones (Policy Coordinator of the Anti-Poverty Network) Veronica Lope Fontagné, (EPP MEP), Rudi Delarue (Director of ILO Brussels office) and Sean Healy (Director Social justice Ireland), among other invited speakers, will contribute to the conference's discussions.

During the conference Caritas Europa will present the following reports:

  • Shadow Report on Europe 2020 Strategy
  • Country Specific Recommendations for employment, education and social policies.
  • The impact of the European Crisis - A study on the impact of the crisis and austerity on people, with a special focus on Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Spain.
