Green Stimulus or Simulus? – a publication by nef

In this report the New Economics Foundation and Greenpeace look at the stimulus packages of the UK government and their commitment to environmental goals.

Although the ongoing crisis presents an opportunity for governments to promote and boost Green economy and programs of clean energy to fight the thread of climate change, the actual investments in these sectors is astonishingly small in comparison to other spending commitments.

Only 0.6 per cent of the UK’s total stimulus package goes into environmental programs, which makes up only 0.0083% of UK GDP, while in the wake of the banking crisis nearly 20% of UK GDP have been spend to support the financial sector.
