GREENING REGIONAL POLICY - Achievements and perspectives

From 2014, EU regional policy will be funded under a new set of rules. The Greens/EFA group made a difference in the negotiations on the legislative package for the period 2014-2020, and so the new rules contain improvements for a greener and socially more just cohesion policy.

DATE: Thursday 30 January 2014 at 9:30-13:00
VENUE: European Parliament - Brussels - Room A1G3

The EU Structural and Investment Funds are a major EU instrument for funding and accelerating the green transformation in Europe, for example, in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, research & innovation, sustainable mobility, green jobs, the solidarity economy, education and combat of poverty.

The Greens/EFA MEPs involved in the negotiations on the Cohesion Policy (legislative) package for 2014-2020, are organising a conference on the green achievements and perspectives for the next 7 years. The main focuses will be how policymakers and local and regional stakeholders can capitalise on these improvements and how they can team up to make sustainable projects on the ground a reality.

Key-Speakers include:

  • European Commission representatives Manuela Geleng (DG Employment, European Social Fund policy) and Mathieu Fichter (DG REGIO)
  • Markus Trilling, CEE Bankwatch
  • Christos Christou, former Programme Manager, national service of ESPA programmes implementation, current head of the Athens development and destination agency

Local and regional civil society representatives and representatives of local and regional administrations from different EU countries will also be joining the discussion.

A light lunch will be provided. The conference is free and open to all, but an online registration is required. More information can be found on the event webpage.
